What Is a Thermal Cycle Experience?

What Is a Thermal Cycle Experience?

At FlowState Health & Fitness, we get this question a lot.

“What exactly is a thermal cycle?”

Simple answer:
It’s the practice of moving between heat, cold, and rest to help your body and mind reset.

You’ll rotate through saunas, cold plunges, hot tubs, and relaxation spaces at your own pace. No pressure. No strict schedule. Just a simple cycle that leaves people feeling energized, calm, clear-headed, and surprisingly refreshed.

The FlowState Experience

Your visit at FlowState is a 2-hour self-paced thermal cycle experience.

That means you move through the spaces however you want. Some people come to relax quietly. Others come with friends and make it part of their social routine.

A typical cycle looks something like this:

Heat

Start in one of our saunas or the Nordic hot tub.

The heat helps warm your muscles, increase circulation, and slow things down mentally. Most people stay in the heat for around 10–15 minutes.

Cold

Next comes the cold plunge, shower rinse, or rest.

Cold water can feel intense at first, but that’s part of the experience. Focus on your breathing, settle into the moment, and stay as long as feels good for you. Some people stay 30 seconds. Some stay a few minutes.

Rest

After the cold, your body resets.

Hang out by the fire, relax indoors, hydrate, chat with friends, or just zone out for a bit before your next round.

Then repeat.

Heat. Cold. Rest. Repeat.

What’s Included at FlowState?

Your thermal cycle session includes access to:

  • Community sauna
  • Barrel sauna
  • Cold plunges
  • Nordic hot tub
  • Indoor relaxation space
  • Outdoor social areas
  • Firepit lounge
  • Waterfront marina atmosphere

Do I Need Experience?

Not at all.

Most people visiting FlowState are trying thermal cycling for the first time.

You do not need to be athletic, experienced with cold plunges, or “good at wellness.” You simply move through the experience at your own comfort level.

Some guests push themselves. Others keep it mellow.

There’s no right way to do it.

What Should I Bring?

We recommend bringing:

  • Swimsuit or workout-style clothing
  • Sandals or slides
  • Water bottle
  • Two towels

That’s it.

Can I Come Alone?

Absolutely.

Some people come solo to disconnect and recharge. Others come with friends, partners, or groups.

FlowState is designed for both social energy and quiet moments.

Is FlowState a Spa?

Not really.

FlowState is more casual, social, and community-driven than a traditional spa.

We’re built around the thermal cycle experience and the culture around it. Sauna. Cold plunge. Recovery. Conversation. Music. Fire. Waterfront energy.

It’s wellness without feeling overly polished or intimidating.
